"Does the Fizzbook have a CD/DVD drive?"

 

No, as with all netbook computers, because of the size of the unit, the Fizzbook doesn't have an optical drive built in.

You can purchase an external unit which connects simply via the USB port.

Two units we recommend, which are both available from amazon.co.uk, are:

“We have noticed that the clock will not stay at the correct time and is 5 and 1/2 hours fast. We have tried changing it but it continues to switch as soon as it is applied.

 

In previous cases the BIOS clock has been set to the wrong time zone.
Basically this means that the basic computer set-up is over-riding the time set in the Windows Operating System.

"I am unable to connnect to the internet through a wired connection. Error code 678 was issued."

 

This is a common error with all machines running Windows XP. Sometimes a simple re-start and checking that cables are connected will solve this problem.

Sometimes however it is as a result of infection by a virus or spyware.

To counter this you should keep your anti-virus software updated and run regular scans.

"I can not connect to the internet via Wi-Fi"

 

The Fizzbook will work with 802.11b or 802.11g Wi-Fi standards and will locate and connect the signal automatically.

 

Should you experience any difficulties then try setting-up a network within Windows XP.

From the start menu select Control Panel and then select Wireless Network Setup Wizard.

Follow the instructions provided to set up a network or to add the Fizzbook to an existing network.

"I am thinking of purchasing one for my son, but have read that you can only access educational internet sites and nothing else is this correct?"

 

The Fizzbook does have educational software pre-installed and is primarily designed to be used within an education environment.

However, the Fizzbook uses a standard internet connection and browser so you can access web sites in the same you do with any other computer.


 

"Where can I buy educational software for my fizzbook?"

 

The Fizzbook has educational software from EdAlive pre-installed. You can purchase further software from the main site: www.edalive.com

"I have purchased a Fizzbook for my child. It has an application on it called "Parent's Carefree" but is asking for a password. No details about this application are in the box so how do I find out the password to use the application?"

 

The Parent's Carefree Software allows you to control how the Fizzbook is used and you can set your own password for this in the control panel.

There is no disc drive so how do i run discs etc when also there was a disc which came with it. And if there is a way to run a disc drive what would you advise to buy for this?

 

The Recovery Disc is supplied in case you need to re-install the operating software in the event of a breakdown or major damage. It is just a precaution and anyone qualified to repair the Fizz book will be able to load the disc via an external drive.

 

If you wish to install software or applications then you can do this via a direct download over the internet or by transferring the data from one PC to another via a USB Memory Device or SD Card.

 

Alternatively you can connect an external disc drive to the machine. Any device which has a USB Connection and is compatible with Windows XP will be suitable.

The Fizzbook is only available in the UK - However, the Classmate PC on which it is based is available to buy in the US from amazon.com

Yes, Wi-Fi is built in. The power adapter works with 110v or 230v electricity supplies, you just need a standard travel adaptor for the plug.

 

"I have purchased the FizzBook for my daughter for Christmas and the only thing I am disappointed about it is that there is no CD drive included."

 

The FizzBook is a self-contained unit with software pre-installed. However, the machine does have standard USB ports which enable you to connect to another drive if you want to?

 

"Is this available in other colours?"

 

No - just green at the moment. If you want a coloured PC try the Asus Netbook or Advent Kid's Netbook

 

"Does the fizzbook have a cd/dvd drive?"

 

No, it has USB ports so you can use a standard memory stick to back up and share files.

 

"When will the fizzbook be available for sale?"

 

The full spec version will be on sale from Monday 8th September. The smaller version is expected to be released for sale 16th October.

 

"Does this have spell checking installed?"

 

Yes, the FizzBook has Ability Office installed which has spell checking features included.
